Catching The Trend

The trend in America now is mobile marketing. We should be making the best of this trend.
How many people can live without their phones right now? Or how long can you go without checking your phone? “84 percent of people surveyed in a new time mobility Poll said they couldn’t go a single day without their mobile device in hand.” “One in four people check their phones every thirty minutes while one in five checks every ten.
”I am not talking about the mobileholic nor the fear of missing out, it’s more about the  connected modern life that mobile has given to us. MobileWeek 2016 is a conference, and week-long series of events across New York City where the Sponsor Universe invited 8 professionals specializing in mobile marketing to share their insights with the next generation of engineers, entrepreneurs, and executives to master the skills behind the mobile revolution.

What really caught my eye was Julia Martin’s(Twitter Manager) speech ‘“Underdog Success Stories in Ad Monetization.” She shared three mobile app developers and their secrets to success.
Josiah Jenkins is one of the app developers. He is the creator of the popular app game Damn Daniel.
“Damn Daniel” is a phrase that began when a high school student recorded his friend Daniel Lara at school using a series of clips and saying the words ‘Damn Daniel’ over and over again. The students video went viral on both social media and the internet. Josiah Jenkins caught the business opportunity and made a profit off of this app. He created a mobile game app out of this and the game is currently on the top ten of Apple’s App store, with over 1,300 reviews.
Ben and Greg are the developers of and the app called Sworkit. Sworkit(derived from simply WORK IT) is a fitness app that takes people through 5-60+minute strength, yoga and stretching workout requiring no equipment but your phone. This is another example of how people may be able to profit off of creating apps. Based on the facts that people are becoming busier than ever, going to a gym after a full day work is just tiring not worth it sometimes  for most of us. The app that generates randomized exercise routines based on your timeframe of choice and by the mean time, add custom workouts. The convenience and the custom workout builder made this app a huge success. “billionaire and Dallas Mavericks owner Mark Cuban offered $1.5 million for 10 percent plus $1.5 million of any unsold ad inventory”.
Based on these two stories, I cannot help noticing in a developing industry, sometimes success is more about having the insight to seize the trend and be an innovator.

Another speech that really impressed me was the VP Matt Asay from Adobe. The title can itself be pretty shocking “Pure Physical Retail Is Doomed”. He used an infographic to show us both opportunity and challenges for the future retail market.
Here are some of the newest facts about mobile marketing:
“Overall, mobile drove 45% of online shopping visits and 25% of online sales during the 2015 holiday shopping season.”
“Mobile retail experience satisfactions low: 45% dislike their app experience, 47% web”
“71% of heavy mobile users rank convenience as the most important aspect of a retail mobile experience.”
After sharing these facts he also added:”Brands will have to figure out what adds value for their shoppers, and the level of personalization that’s helpful without being intrusive.”

This event impressed me in many different ways. It truly admits that Mobile + Device development is the enabler of a connected life. We are facing the next generation of mobile technology, where smartphones and devices are not just an extension of the desktop web. they are a new way for us to live and work.
From mobile apps to mobile retail, I feel like the market has so much potential, and we can create so much out of it. In conclusion, we should always keep our eyes open and embrace the new things in such a fast changing time. To seize the trend, personalization should also be taken into consideration in the whole creation process. Last but not least, We should always try to be innovators and always go for what we believe in.

Ps: There were a lot of other intelligent speakers that had shared their experience and insight that I didn’t have a chance to mention.
