A few months ago I attended the Education Connect conference held by LinkedIn. I was excited to attend this conference because I feel education is extremely important but also necessary for us all to constantly improve and grow. As the society and the economy continue to change, education is also evolving and changing with it.
During the conference the speakers talked about how technology transforms the global economy, it is changing students, colleges, and the education marketers that serve both. The future of education marketing will constantly continue to change. Zoe Baird, who is the CEO-President of the Markle Foundation, says "The world has moved from an industrial economy to a digital economy." This really grabbed my attention because the digital world has become such an important part in all our lives and careers. In the digital world, things are constantly changing and you have to evolve with the change or you will fall behind. As students change, education will change and so will technology.
It was interesting to learn that students are highly active users on LinkedIn and post a lot of content. Most times, these students post things that get a lot of attention. Content has power and this can open so many doors for you. We are in a generation where being tech savvy is essential and posting content on social media is a big part of our everyday lives. You never really think about the power your content has and it's crucial to post valuable content especially on a platform like LinkedIn.
Another topic talked about was establishing your presence on LinkedIn and sponsoring your content. It is important to share your unique experiences on LinkedIn to publish. Prospective students are three times more likely to consult their professional networks than their social networks when making a MBA decision. For this reason many educational marketers are using LinkedIn products like sponsored updates to reach their targets on the platform. Sponsored updates that use consistent brand strategy and are visually appealing will stand out more. It's also about quality over quantity.
Overall, the conference was interesting and really sheds light on how education, social media and technology are all affected by one another. Being that they are all affected by one another, when things start to change for one the others are soon to follow.
