NYC Media Lab 2018

I had the pleasure of attending NYC Media Lab 2018 which brings together all the top student innovators from Universities around the city. Being a student myself, I was excited to see what other students are learning and coming up with in other universities. It's always exciting to see your peers contributing to media and coming up with new and innovating experiences. At Media Lab you have a chance to network and meet so many other students and faculty which is really great. There were so many great ideas that I believe will really change the future of media and technology.

Ovee was created by two students who wanted to create a central and inclusive space for women to find the resources they need to navigate their sexual and reproductive health. At the website the users are protected with a privacy policy and their data wont be collected or used. It's a great space for women to feel comfortable talking about things they are going through or experiencing that might be awkward to talk about openly. This can really make a difference especially when society puts such a stigma on women who are open about their bodies. They're able to talk freely in a safe space and interact with other women and professionals.

One of the topics I remember hearing about in NYC Media Lab is the talk of 5G speed and how that will play a role in future education. 5G is the fifth generation of wireless technology that promises quicker downloads, high speed, powerful networks and quick efficiency for businesses. 5G in the area of eduction is a big space to explore. 5G-enabled classrooms could change the way students learn in the classroom. Some 5G advances in education include: a holographic teacher who can beam in to lead on discussions on specialized topics, seamless virtual reality experiences and students with diverse learning needs would be better engaged. This is exciting to me because growing up technology wasn't heavily involved in the classroom for me. Today, technology plays such a big role in our everyday lives that it makes sense to really incorporate it with education and in the classrooms.

Another interesting idea came from a platform called spARK, which is an AR and voice platform for educators. This platform allows educators to search and upload lesson plans which then can be turned into interactive and multi-sensory learning experiences for students. Using technology in the classroom will really engage students and actually encourage them to want to learn. Also, the platform uses voice technology to listen in on students progress and provide feedback for teachers which can improve future lesson plans.

Overall, my experience at NYC Media Lab 18 was great! I am exited to see a lot of these innovating ideas come to life n the future. I am excited to attend Media Lab this year and see what's coming up next.
