The New School Creatives at Work Film/photo Conference Recap

I had the pleasure of attending the creative at work conference that took place at the New School Parson School of Design. The two speakers that spoke at the event was JoeKenneth Museau and Emmanuel Afolabi. The talks where focused on the integration of Film and Photography into our daily lives in the evolving world of social media.
JoeKenneth is a brooklyn -bred artist who seeks to connect with the world around him through his ability to create a mosaic of words formed by personal experiences and astute observations. Joekenneth known for his unique first name initially commanded the attention of the inter-webs by way of his spoken word poetry which is characterized by poignant messages, eloquently delivered with the raw emotion that is discernibly felt by his audience. Throughout the years of his creative career, Joekenneth has sought to express himself in various mediums beyond writing; which includes photography, modeling and content creation. In the summer of 2013, he published his first book entitled Tales of a Troubled Romantic; a compilation of poetry and prose writings along with photography by New York Times photographer Andre D. Wagner. His second book, Days After Your Departure, released in 2017 is the author's most vulnerable work to date. Joekenneth continues to use his talents to collaborate with a number of brands such as Budweiser, Uniqlo, Nike and many others. One of the things that stood out to me from his speech was when he spoke about the death of his mother last year, and how he has been able to relief that by making a short documentary film as a homage to her and the experiences they shared while she was alive. The work he showed can be seen on his website www.joekenneth.com
His film "A day after your departure" Depicted him reminiscing over his mother at their house, symbolic art collectives she owns and the prayer she will say to him. I thought this conference was interesting because it shows how film can be used to communicate grief on a different level.
